Striking colour and strong branches which are good for heavy tree decorations

Not known as a good needle holder feedback from our customers tells us it is certainly more needle fast than other spruces. It is distinguished mainly by it's striking colour from blue to green but it also has strong branches and if carefully pruned can be a most attractively shaped tree . It's very sharp needles ensures that pets and children keep well clear!In its natural environment in Central and Eastern Europe and the USA, foliage can be seen as a stunning light blue colour. This blue colour comes from a wax produced by the tree as protection against the very high summer temperatures of these countries. In Britain our summers are less than glorious and this gives us the variation in colour from green to blue as individual trees have their own degree of response to summer temperatures. It does mean however that Blue spruce thrives on the dry soils of high alkaline content that we have in much of our plantations. It has one major drawback it is very susceptible to aphid attack and our policy of minimal pesticide control has to be somewhat adjusted to accommodate this unfortunate trait!Best seed sources come from Kiabab National forest Arizona. Its natural forest range is east of the Rocky Mountains in Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico.
